I've been experimenting with recipes using ground beef, and I figured there's no better way to utilize it than by making a loco moco! Loco moco originated in Hawaii and is a popular dish there. I love the mixture of the juicy patty, saucy gravy, warm rice and a yolky egg!

Recipe:
Beef Patties
• 1 lb ground beef
• 1 tsp oyster sauce
• 1 tbsp soy sauce
• 1 tsp fish sauce
• 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tsp Trader Joe’s Umami Seasoning (or mushroom powder)
• 3 garlic cloves, minced
• 1/4 onion, finely chopped
• White and black pepper (to taste)
• Garlic powder (to taste)
Mix together and form into patties. Cook until nicely browned and cooked through. Set aside.

Mushroom Gravy
• 2 tbsp butter
• 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 3 tbsp beef stock (to reduce mushrooms)
• Black pepper, garlic powder, and garlic salt (to taste)
• 4 tbsp flour
• 4 tbsp butter
• 2 cups beef stock (or broth)
• 1–2 tsp Worcestershire sauce (to taste)
Instructions:
1. In a pan, melt 2 tbsp butter and sauté mushrooms until browned.
2. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
3. Deglaze with 3 tbsp beef stock and reduce slightly.
4. In a separate saucepan, make a roux: melt 4 tbsp butter, whisk in 4 tbsp flour, and cook for 2–3 minutes.
5. Slowly whisk in 2 cups beef stock.
6. Add the sautéed mushroom mix into the gravy.
7. Season with pepper, garlic powder, garlic salt, and Worcestershire sauce to taste. Simmer until thickened.
